F is for....Fruit Pizza

I received a phone call this past week, a request to make a vegetable or fruit pizza for a funeral dinner.  It was on voicemail and when I called back they had the veggie pizzas taken care of but still needed fruit pizza.  I eagerly agreed, glad that I could help.....then once I started to make it I realized I had never made fruit pizza and started to get a little nervous that it wouldn't turn out quite right.
But in the end there was no reason to worry, even following the recipe in true Madame Blueberry style....i.e. not quite following the recipe as written, no big changes - just when you have 2-3 recipes in front of you, you decide that you really liked what the other recipe added, and switch back and forth between recipes.
I actually went to the store to get ingredients for the one recipe and when I went to make it, I couldn't find the cookbook I had originally looked at, so I pulled out another cookbook and started to use that recipe, but I got to the glaze and realized it asked for clear jel, which I didn't have...or possibly I have some, but not sure where it is stashed, so I scoured around some more and finally turned up the first recipe which used cornstarch, but one recipe asked for just pineapple juice, and one for orange juice and lemon juice....well my glaze ended up with orange juice, lemon juice, and pineapple juice, and it was quite tasty.

A quick cooling method ---this only works when it is cold outside.

And in the end, it turned out very nice, I planned ahead for the high winds we were having and after covering it with saran wrap, I placed it in a paper bag so the saran wrap wouldn't blow away, and then.....when I arrived to deliver it, there were less people than they expected and they didn't need it, so they said if I was doing something in the evening I could take it to that.  I didn't have plans for the evening, but now with fruit pizza in hand, I ran through a list of people I could bless it with, and finally settled on my dear friend's family.  They didn't answer initially, but before I made it home, I got a return call and they were having pizza night and said it would fit right in.  So, I dropped it off and was invited to dinner, and spent the evening with my dear friends, enjoying some after dinner yahtzee and the joy and antics of their 3 boys - she told me if I every get tired of quiet meals at my house and need some noise, I am welcome at their house for their crazy mealtimes, as one can imagine with a 2, almost 5, and almost 7 year old.  What was left of the pizza, I shared with Mom, Dad, and the Colonel Mustard for Sunday lunch.

  1. The Fruit Pizza looks so beautiful and tempting. I liked how you went about selecting the recipe and how you finally made it. That's really cool when you are making something for the first time and that too for outsiders. Mealtimes with little ones can be really crazy. Glad you have a great time with friends and family :)

    1. thanks...truthfully I have been very lucky making new recipes for guests/others over the years, only once or twice it didn't turn out very well, and the one time it was really bad, I had followed the recipe properly and it was from a cookbook I have never had trouble with...I have no idea what happened and I am not brave enough to try it again...

  2. Wow! I didn't even know fruit pizza was a thing. But I do love fruit and I do love pizza, so it seems like it would be something right up my alley... thanks for the recommendation! :)
